The distance

A long walk into the unknown

This photo was taken on the most distant point of about a 25 mile (round trip) hike/run. It is an extremely remote location, and as you can see totally devoid of vegetation of any kind. As places go that might described as "the middle of nowhere", this surely must rank among them. I took this hike/run alone. I brought no clothes of any kind, and did the last few miles without shoes and socks. The only thing I had with me was a camera - which is the only reason why this photo can even exist. It was a very humbling and spiritual experience to be there, completely alone, many, many miles away from anything that could be considered 'civilization' and as naked and helpless as the day I was born. I felt the reality of God that day, no question about it. This photo reminds me so much of an 'ending', that I think it would be beautifully fitting if it could be displayed on my headstone (realizing too many people would freak out, unfortunately). But, this is how I would like to be remembered. As simply wondering off into the distance of the unknown great beyond to meet God Himself.
