Drawings by Outdoorbare

Having already seen just a little bit of his work, I was very excited and pleased when Outdoorbare decided to join the cyberspace-based figure drawing group that I participate with. Looking for a place to begin with the group, he decided to begin at the beginning and took a stab at the first group project, for which I was the model. I gathered the logistics of the group and the newness of it created some frustration for him with this drawing, but it turned out quite nicely regardless.

After completing the first group project, Outdoorbare decided to turn to the current group project, which, coincidentally, I also happened to be the model for. This project involved drawing from an upside down reference photo. As you can see, Outdoorbare, once again demonstrated his ability to draw despite potential obstacles. I have turned this drawing back upside right for easier viewing. Although I found it quite interesting that, to me, the drawing clearly gives the feel that it was in fact drawn upside down.

One day, Crystal, one of the cyberspace-based figure drawing group's artists, did a single drawing of 4 different group models from 4 different photos at the same time. This drawing was called "models at rest" and can be seen by clicking here . The idea sparked interest in creating a group assignment doing something similar and the assignment was created. I was one of the four potential models involved. To me it seemed like an extremely difficult assignment and I was fascinated to watch as each artist who participated overcame the challenges and created a drawing, each in a different way.

This drawing, by Outdoorbare, shows 3 of the 4 potential models in a drawing he titled "3 on an Island". Outdoorbare overcame some of the challenges of combining the figures by flipping my figure around horizontally. As are all of Outdoorbare's drawings, the accuracy and resulting likeness to the original models of the figures in the drawing are very impressive, as is the creative way in which he overcame the challenges involved and as he gave the drawing a credible context to exist in.

Although Outdoorbare indicated this drawing is unfinished, I liked it so much, and the place that it reminded me of, that I wanted to include it here. He called the drawing "Chief Ben Redrock" which makes me smile every time I think about it.
