Drawings by Andrew

Andrew joined the cyberspace-based figure drawing group that I participate with primarily as a model, and really good one. But, he also decided to take it to another level and see drawing from the other side as an artist. I've felt that he's experienced some frustration, but I've also sensed his raw determination and am very impressed. I should try to learn something from that myself . I felt pretty honored that Andrew decided to draw from a couple of my poses. I felt like he was really starting to express emotion through his drawing, which to me is the most important part of what art is all about. He called this drawing "Ben Resting". With what little I do know and have experienced with trying to draw myself, Andrew selected a very difficult pose with this one.

Well, as if the previous pose weren't difficult enough, he selected another that I think would challenge just about any artist. He called this drawing "Ben lying on the grass". This one really struck me as being filled with emotion. Being a naturist, I so enjoy just lying on the grass in the sun as this drawing depicts. And, being winter, with daytime highs commonly below freezing, my anxiousness grows each day. Ironically, even at roughly the same time that Andrew was doing this drawing, I became so anxious to just spend some time lying in the sun, that I'd done that with whatever sun actually makes it through a window. His drawing really took me back, expressed feeling to me, and made my long and ache for Spring weather. It must be a feeling that Andrew understands.

I was, of course, quite pleased when it was announced that a group project would be done from one of a very large series of poses that I had been working on that I called "Props" - because I used sticks, boxes, tables, etc., to help with the pose. I also created a black background, giving a particular feel to many of the photos. The project was to use this effect and draw on a dark background, working from light to dark, to develop the drawing, somewhat like a a negative. Andrew was the first to complete the project.
